What the research looked at
A recent manufacturer-funded trial tested enXtra in healthy adults aged 18 to 40 who were short on sleep and used to caffeine. Around 128 people took part. They had either 300mg of enXtra, 200mg of caffeine, both together, or a placebo, and their alertness and fatigue were measured over several hours.
The researchers reported that enXtra, and especially enXtra with caffeine, did better on their alertness measures than placebo. It's one industry-funded study, and the caffeine dose was higher than in most cans, so treat it as promising rather than settled. There's no authorised UK health claim for enXtra.
Why it's paired with caffeine
- Caffeine is the ingredient with an authorised UK claim: it contributes to increased alertness and improved concentration.
- enXtra is being studied for whether it changes how long that alertness feels like it lasts.
- That's why brands put the two in the same can rather than selling enXtra on its own.
Is enXtra safe?
Galangal has a long history as a food and spice in South-East Asian cooking. The manufacturer reports a good safety profile in healthy adults. As with any caffeinated drink, the caffeine is what to watch: under 400mg a day, and not for under-16s, pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Where PÜRCHARGE fits
